Lima City Tour + Aliaga´s Colonial Mansion

Lima City Tour + Aliaga´s Colonial Mansion

Aliaga’s Colonial Mansion

After the founding of Lima on January 18th, 1535, Captain Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez received a colonial house in the elegant area near the house of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish Conqueror (today the Government Palace). Ever since then the Aliaga family and their descendants have lived in the house, thus making it the oldest dwelling in the Americas that has been home to the same family for 17 generations. As you wander through the beautiful rooms of this old mansion one can enjoy both the Colonial and Republican history of the city of Lima.

Modern Lima

We will stop at Parque Intihuatana and enjoy a nice view of the Pacific Ocean, as we drive down the Miraflores Malecon, a road along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. We will begin our tour visiting the modern suburbs of Miraflores and San Isidro. We will go by the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-inca pyramid shape temple that has survived the expansion of modern civilization. We will see the Olive Grove Park and the Financial Center.

Colonial Lima

We will visit downtown Lima`s historical center, designated by Unesco as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1991. In this journey we will enjoy what once was the center of the 16th century Spanish colony. We will see the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop`s Palace, the City Hall and the Desamparados Train Station. We will also see Plaza San Martin, a large park surrounded by old buildings and other landmarks.

Santo Domingo Convent

We shall visit the Santo Domingo Convent, where the reliecs of three Peruvian saints, Santa Rosa de Lima, San Martin de Porras and San Juan Macias are conserved.

Aliaga´s Colonial Mansion

We will then head towards the Aliaga´s Colonial Mansion, located nearby the Government Palace. In this house, we will get to know more about the lifestyle of the colonial nobility in the city of Lima, the capital of the viceroyalty of Peru, considered the richest and most affluent of the Spanish crown possessions.

At the end of the tour you will have a choice to either shop at the Indian Market, Larcomar Mall or return to your hotel.
