Puno Titicaca Lake

Puno Titicaca Lake

The Origin of the Empire

The history of the Andean people has always been linked to Lake Titicaca. According to the old priests, a very long time ago, when gods still walked the earth, the Sun God felt sorry for the human race because they were living like beasts. So, he sent one of his sons called Manco Capac as well as a daughter called Mama Ocllo from heaven who came out of Lake Titicaca to establish the Inka Empire.

You will be picked up from the hotel and driven to the pier to take a fast motor boat that will take you to the Uros floating islands in approximately 20 minutes. You will sail through thick reed beds to one of the islands where you will meet the resident families, explore the surroundings and take photos. The people of Uros are believed to be descended from the earliest inhabitants of Lake Titicaca. They have preserved a floating lifestyle for many hundreds of years. Homes, boats, and the very islands themselves are all made of reeds. The Uros residents subsist primarily by fishing, bird hunting and also by tourism.

10:00 am* we will board our boats and sail for about 1:30 hours to reach Taquile Island, famous for its rich cultural heritage and beautiful textile traditions.
